February 23, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Jeep® brand is bringing Camp Jeep®, a unique, interactive, off-road experience to consumers attending the 2012 Cleveland Auto Show, February 25 – March 4 at the International Exposition Center.

The 22,000-square foot exhibit will give auto show attendees a chance to experience the extreme on- and off-road capabilities of Jeep vehicles without leaving the show floor.

“The Camp Jeep provides attendees to the Cleveland Auto Show with a taste of the Jeep brand lifestyle and showcases the capability of the product lineup,” said Jim Morrison, Director of Jeep Brand Marketing. “Customers can experience first-hand the all-new Jeep vehicle lineup that has been successfully gaining sales traction in the market.”

The course will be comprised of several obstacles that simulate the capability standards of Jeep vehicles for Ground Clearance, Traction, Stability, Articulation and Maneuverability.

Product specialists will drive participants in 2012 Jeep vehicles over a variety of surfaces, as well as an 18-foot mobile mountain and a 12 x 25-foot section of terrain simulating fallen logs measuring 18 inches in diameter. Attendees also will experience the adrenaline rush of looking nearly straight up or straight down as they navigate a 30-degree wedge to demonstrate the vehicle's body articulation.

Adjacent to Camp Jeep will be the Jeep Kids Course, where kid-sized Jeeps will be available for children attending the auto show in addition to a 25 foot Jeep Climbing wall.

SRT Reveals New “Stryker” Logo for 2013 Viper

As the launch of the 2013 SRT Viper draws ever nearer, the folks at Chrysler’s in-house performance brand continue to issue teasers about its next-generation halo car. The latest update gives us a look at a small but symbolic piece of the car: its emblem.

For the past 20 years, the Viper’s logo has shared a common shape and subject (a snake, of course), but the design has evolved over time. The first-generation Viper’s emblem was nicknamed “Sneaky Pete” thanks to its conniving, smirking appearance. The second-generation emblem, used from 2003 through 2010, earned its “Fangs” nickname thanks to its prominent teeth. The third generation logo, which is officially known within Viper circles as “Stryker,” has its snake coiled, as if it’s ready to strike.

Thanks to a tight shroud of secrecy, little is known about the 2013 Viper, other than it will no longer be labeled as a Dodge vehicle. We expect a V-10 powerplant to return, perhaps displacing roughly 8.7 liters and producing about 650 hp. If so, that bests the 2010 Viper’s 8.3-liter V-10 by about 50 horsepower. Predictably, that power will be sent only to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

A teaser image of the 2013 SRT Viper was issued earlier this year, although the shadowy sketch revealed little of the forthcoming vehicle. What we can tell is the Viper GTS’ signature double-bubble roof will likely continue, and headlamp assemblies will likely contain some sort of LED illumination. Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of the SRT brand, previously suggested the 2013 Viper’s styling was “inspired by a naked woman on a beach,” and that interior design was a high priority when crafting the new car. Expect SRT’s push to move upmarket to be hinged upon this latest Viper.

Expect more details to emerge shortly, as the 2013 SRT Viper should debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April. Expect the new car to go into production by the end of 2012 at Chrysler’s Conner Avenue plant in Detroit, Michigan.

Ferrari racers get company Jeeps

While they drive Ferraris for work and have their own personal Fiat Abarth 695 Tributos to run around in when they're not on the track, the prancing horse brand's F1 drivers Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso now have company cars supplied by Jeep.

The concept is not such a stretch when you realise that Fiat owns Ferrari and Alfa Romeo and more recently Chrysler, which owns Jeep, so a pair of Grand Cherokees in the Maranello carpark isn't that surprising.

They are no ordinary Jeeps, being specially prepared versions of the new Grand Cherokee SRT8, each with a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 offering up to 465kW and 630Nm of torque, enough to deliver a zero-to-100kmh time of 4.8 seconds and a potential top speed of 257kmh.

Most SRT8 Grand Cherokees delivered in their native United States are black, but for Massa and Alonso, the Jeeps are executed in Ferrari's signature "rosso corsa" (racing red) contrasted with matte black roofs and grilles, gloss black and silver racing stripes, black alloy wheels with red brake calipers and red accents on the front grille.

The interior is clad in red leather, with the leather-rimmed steering wheel in black leather.

"We are excited and proud to be able to hand over the exclusively personalised 'Ferrari- style' versions of the most powerful and fastest Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 of all time to two of the most talented drivers in the world," said Beth Peretta, marketing director of the SRT Brand.

"We are sure Fernando and Felipe will feel perfectly at home at the wheel of these cars that take styling cues from Ferrari with rosso corsa bodywork and that represent the pinnacle in terms of performance for the Jeep brand."

We'll make one prediction. Next year, the Ferrari Jeeps will go on eBay as the F1 drivers will inevitably get their own Maserati Kubangs, which will keep their SUV aspirations a little closer to the Ferrari brand. The Kubang will have underpinnings based on the Grand Cherokee's but will use a V8 engine put together for Maserati by Ferrari and clad in a body by car design genius Giugiaro.

2012 Dodge Durango Receives MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Award at the Chicago Auto Show

The year may be young, but Dodge brand vehicles are continuing to gain momentum, earning recognition from both new car buyers and the media, alike.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, the editors of MotorWeek presented the "Driver's Choice, Best Large Utility" for the three-row Dodge Durango SUV (shared with Jeep Grand Cherokee) at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

MotorWeek has judged the best new cars and trucks of the year for the past 31 years. Its annual Drivers' Choice Awards looks at vehicles from a buyer's point of view, including priorities such as value and reliability, while also taking the latest trends and innovations into consideration. An episode of MotorWeek featuring the Durango and other award winners is scheduled to air Feb. 11 on PBS and on Discovery's Velocity Network Feb. 21.

"It's an honor to receive this award from MotorWeek," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Dodge Brand. "Even though it's still early in 2012, Dodge has already received more than a dozen awards across the line-up, demonstrating the strength of our products."

The MotorWeek award comes on the heels of the Dodge brand's introduction of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January, where the groundbreaking compact sedan was named "Most Significant Vehicle" by AutoWeek editors. The Dodge brand posted a 29 percent sales increase in January, its best January since 2008 and its eighth-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The three-row Dodge Durango SUV, and the Dodge Charger and Avenger sport sedans each logged triple-digit percentage sales gains in January versus the same month in 2011.

SRT releases 2013 Dodge Viper teaser!

Early last year, Chrysler announced that it would be bringing the Viper back into production, with the brand's performance flagship once again taking its place at the front of the SRT lineup. The next generation Viper won't be unveiled until April at the New York Auto Show, and it looks like Dodge will be doing its best to tease us mercilessly until then with vague sketches of the car. The first has just been posted on the official SRT Facebook page, providing the very first look at the front end of the 2013 Viper. From the silhouette it's hard to really tell what the design will look like, but the overall shape and the hood scoop distinctly remind us of the Viper GTS coupe built from 1996 to 2002.

So, what do we know about the 2013 Viper as of right now? For starters, traction control will be used for the first time in the model's history as mandated by federal law. The powertrain is still unconfirmed, although there are rumors that the V10 could get a bump in displacement to an incredible 8.7 liters.

All of these rumors will be laid to rest come April, but until then we'll just have to settle for the teasers that SRT gives us. We'll be sure to bring you more news on the 2013 Viper as soon as its released, and let us know what you're hoping to see from the new Viper in the Comments.

Jeep announces winner of ‘Jeep Arctic Yeti Dig’ contest held at Winter X Games 2012

January 27, 2012 , Aspen, Colo. - The Jeep® brand hosted the “Jeep Arctic Yeti Dig” at the Winter X Games 2012. 7 contestants had the chance to dig into a 20 by 20 section of snow on the grounds of the X Games to find a Jeep Yeti Artic Dig medallion. Kerry Boston from Spokane, Wash. was the first person to find the medallion and was named the grand prize winner of a new 2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic Edition vehicle. It was broadcast at the games, garnering great excitement and anticipation.

“It was a tough dig but, I was determined to find that Jeep artifact so I could take home a new 2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic Edition,” said Kerry Boston. “I am looking forward to seeing it in my drive-way very soon.”

The Jeep brand kicked off the “Jeep Arctic Yeti Dig” sweepstakes on the Jeep Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jeep), Twitter (www.twitter.com/Jeep) and blog (http://blog.jeep.com) sites. Six sweepstakes participants were randomly selected to attend the Winter X games and today all dug in a giant pile of snow to find a key Jeep brand artifact. The first to find it was the grand prize winner of an all-new 2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic.

Based on the Wrangler Sahara model, the Arctic’s winter theme is immediately recognizable. Available colors are Winter Chill, Bright Silver and Bright White. Exterior features include a body-color hardtop and fender flares, “Arctic” badges on the front fenders, a “Yeti Footprint” decal over part of the driver’s side fender and hood, black hood decal and Mopar® black fuel filler door and taillamp guards.

Jeep Wrangler Arctic also offers an aggressive Wrangler Rubicon tire and wheel package, with unique semi-gloss black 17-inch wheels shod with 32-inch tires.

Inside, Wrangler Arctic’s seats are black Tectonic fabric with Polar White accents and orange accent stitching. Front seats are heated and feature an “Arctic” logo in the seat back. Accent stitching can also be found on the steering wheel, arm rest and console lid. Door trim and nets are accented in orange, and all grab handles and dashboard vent rings are finished in Polar White trim.

Mopar tread pattern slush mats with white “Jeep” lettering complete the Wrangler Arctic package.
