Jeep® and Mopar are ready for a week of wheeling in Moab.

The brands have created six new vehicles – all featuring a host of Jeep Authentic Parts and Accessories – for the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Now in its 46th year and taking place March 31 – April 8, the Easter Jeep Safari will be attended by thousands of die-hard off-road enthusiasts looking to enjoy a week of wheeling on some of the country’s most renowned and challenging trails. Mopar also announced the creation of an off-road division that will create Jeep Authentic Parts and Accessories.

“We’re delighted to showcase six new vehicles to our loyal Jeep fans at this year’s Moab Easter Jeep Safari,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The Jeep Safari has long been a great way for Jeep to connect with its core audience. We look forward to spending the week demonstrating our latest potential production and customization ideas and gathering instant feedback from the most knowledgeable 4x4 enthusiasts in the world.”

To create these new vehicles, Jeep teamed with Mopar, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and offers more than 1,000 accessories and performance parts for Jeep vehicles.

“Mopar is tapping into a growing trend among extreme Jeep enthusiasts who want even more power and capability on the trail,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “This year, Mopar is pushing the envelope in this arena by offering our customers new Pro 60 portal axles and a new HEMI conversion kit, which we will showcase in these new vehicles. In addition, to further maximize our presence in the off-road market, we are creating a Mopar Off-Road division to develop Jeep Authentic Parts and Accessories.”

Since 2002, Jeep and Mopar have teamed to create more than 30 unique concept vehicles for enthusiasts who attend the popular Easter Jeep Safari.

Jeep Authentic Parts and Accessories, New Mopar Off-road Division
Jeep engineers, working closely with Mopar’s new off-road division, will create authentic parts and accessories for Jeep vehicles. New products from the group will be called Jeep Authentic Parts and Accessories. Each part and accessory will be specifically designed, built and quality-tested in order to meet strict Jeep specifications and fulfill the Jeep brand’s requirements for 4x4 capability, craftsmanship and versatility.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is well known for its benchmark off-road capability, courtesy of its Quadra-Lift™ air suspension, Selec-Terrain™ traction control system, Off-Road Adventure packages, tow/recovery hooks tested to twice the vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Weight, and class-leading 4x4 systems – including Jeep’s Quadra-Drive® II system that includes a rear Electronic Limited-slip Differential (ELSD), delivering industry-leading tractive capability.

Already the most awarded SUV ever over its lifetime compared to any other SUV, the new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk concept takes the premium Jeep vehicle’s legendary off-road prowess to a new level, while providing a one-of-a-kind, more aggressive visual punch sure to delight Jeep enthusiasts.

Leading the off-road improvement are new 18-inch Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor off-road tires – chosen to provide even more aggressive off-road performance combined with quiet highway manners – that are wrapped around new painted 5-spoke alloy Mineral Gray wheels. Grand Cherokee Trailhawk’s SilentArmor tires include additional side-wall protection that enhances durability and reduces road noise. Modified Mopar rock rails – engineered to fully protect the lower body from rugged rocky terrain – are included and add to the functional off-road capability.

Visually, while the vehicle is featured in Stone White, a Mineral Gray and Red theme is highlighted throughout. Specifically, the grille surround, lower front applique, mirror caps and rear light bar join the wheels in Mineral Gray, while contrasting in eye-catching Red are the upper grille mesh, front and rear tow hooks, Jeep logos on wheel center caps and bolt holes in the alloy wheels. A Red trim line outlines a matte black hood applique that is utilized to reduce glare during technical off-road maneuvers.

Other unique touches include black headlamp surrounds, black exterior front and rear badging, Red “Trail Rated” badges on the front fenders and a unique “Trailhawk” badge on the rear tailgate.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Apache from Mopar
Jeep enthusiasts have been asking for a V-8 powered Jeep HEMI Wrangler, and Mopar is coming through. Debuting at the Easter Jeep Safari will be the new Mopar 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine conversion kit specifically for the Jeep Wrangler. Producing approximately 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels, the Mopar V-8 conversion kit gives Jeep enthusiasts an unprecedented blend of power and capability.

Available this summer, the Mopar Wrangler V-8 conversion kit initially will mate to Chrysler Group’s W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission, and eventually to the six-speed manual transmission that drives the 2012 production Wrangler.

Other performance parts on the Jeep Wrangler Apache are Mopar Pro 60 5.13 front and rear axles, a 4.5-inch Stage 3 long arm lift kit and off-road bead-lock wheels. Aesthetic and functional modifications include high-clearance flat fenders, rock rails, front and rear half-door kits, a Stinger front bumper, a Warn 9.5ti XP winch, Katzkin leather seats, a locking center console box and a Mopar branded interior.

Jeep Mighty FC Concept
The Jeep Forward Control was built from 1956 to 1965 and offered a clever packaging solution.

It kept overall length at a minimum for maneuverability but maintained a full-length cargo box for utility. For 2012, Jeep has created a modern version of this classic: the Jeep Mighty FC concept.

To create the Jeep Mighty FC concept, the design team started with a 2012 Wrangler Rubicon and repositioned the cabin over and ahead of the front axle, lengthened the wheelbase, and added a custom built drop-side cargo box. The cab utilizes a roof from the Mopar JK-8 conversion kit, as well as a custom-designed front clip. The Wrangler-based interior has been enhanced with bold, heavy-duty Katzkin leather and a unique color scheme. The cargo area is handled by a full-width, drop-side tray-style bed that measures more than eight feet in length.

Off-road function is dramatically improved with the addition of Mopar’s new Portal Axle set. These offset axles offer the greatest amount of ground clearance without requiring excessive suspension lift.

Mopar’s Front Portal Axle (8-lug, part number P5155670) is available at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $12,500, and the Rear Portal Axle’s (8-lug, part number P5155671) MSRP is $11,000.

The axles are controlled with King coil-over assemblies along with beefy Teraflex control arms and track bars. Traction is handled by massive 40-inch tires mounted on custom Hutchinson 17-inch beadlock wheels.

Other Jeep Mighty FC highlights include King coil-over reservoir shocks, Hanson bumpers, a Warn 16.5 winch and a Corsa stainless steel exhaust system.

Jeep J-12 Concept
The Jeep J-12 concept is essentially an extended version of Mopar’s recently introduced JK-8 pickup conversion kit for the Jeep Wrangler. With a new 2012 Wrangler Unlimited as the starting point, the rear of the vehicle’s frame is extended 18 inches, allowing the spare tire to be relocated under the bed floor and making the cargo box a full six feet in length. A custom hood and front fender set was created as a nod to aficionados of the beloved Jeep Gladiator series trucks.

Off-road muscle has been improved with the addition of the new Mopar three-inch suspension lift kit, as well as Teraflex sway bars controlling ARB air-locker equipped Dynatrac D-44 and D-60 axle assemblies. Traction is handled through classic 36-inch tires mounted on 16-inch steel wheels.

The cabin of the J-12 concept has been “dressed down” in support of a basic truck theme, with the carpet being replaced by rugged truck bed liner, and the bucket seats re-crafted into a modern version of a bench seat, trimmed in white with a whimsical plaid pattern.

Further highlights include a Mopar fuel-filler door, Mopar slush mats, Tom Woods custom driveshafts and Katzkin seat trim.

Mopar Accessorized 2012 Jeep Wrangler
Mopar offers more than 250 accessories for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler, and built a vehicle for Moab that showcases many of them.

Mopar created an ultra-capable Jeep, with a Wrangler Rubicon model as the starting point. Off-road enhancements offered through Mopar include a two-inch performance lift kit, 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires mounted on Classic five-hole wheels, front and rear off-road bumpers, a Warn 9.5ti XP winch, Mopar rock rails, Kicker dash 6.5-inch two-way speakers, Mopar all-weather mats and more.

Some prototype Mopar accessories debuting on this vehicle are a locking center console box, a rear cargo cubby cover, new windshield-mounted LED lamps, a new hard-top headliner and an “Add-A-Trunk” partition that creates secure storage space in the cargo area.

The Mopar Accessorized 2012 Jeep Wrangler includes Rubicon-standard Dana 44 front and rear axles with electric lockers, which are also available in kit form from Mopar.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Traildozer Concept
To prepare the Jeep Wrangler Traildozer for Moab’s toughest trails, Jeep Design worked closely with the American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) engineering team to bring it to life. Starting with a new Dozer Yellow 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the team added a bolt-in 470 horsepower 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine mated to a Getrag 238 six-speed manual transmission. Power runs through Rubicon-specific Dana 44 axles equipped with 4:10 gears and electronic locking differentials.

To clear the 37-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials mounted on Mopar Classic five-spoke wheels,
an AEV Dualsport RS 3.5-inch suspension lift was installed. For severe off-road body protection, Mopar premium front and rear bumpers and rear corner guards were added. Additional items include a Mopar performance heat reduction hood, Mopar half-door kit and a Mopar/Warn 9.5 Cti winch.

Jeep Wrangler Traildozer’s interior includes an AEV ‘F-1’ leather seat trim kit and Mopar slush mats.

Dodge Durango Special Service Reporting For Duty

  • Special Service Dodge Durango designed for police, fire and general fleet customers
  • Model has unique components to handle extreme use, extra-long life and added utility
  • Durango can tow class-leading 7,400 pounds and travel over a class-leading 550 miles between fill-ups

Fetchimage

Following the successful debut of the Dodge Charger Pursuit, Dodge will begin offering a Durango Special Service model for fleet use. The Dodge Durango Special Service SUV is specially designed to handle the rigors of everyday use by police and fire departments and fleet customers. Chrysler Group fleet operations will start taking orders now, with deliveries expected to begin in the second quarter of 2012.

“We’re incredibly excited to add the Dodge Durango Special Service to our line-up of law enforcement vehicles,” said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet Operations. “Adding Durango to our current Dodge Charger Pursuit and Ram 1500 Special Service vehicles allows us to offer a full range of fleet sedan, SUV, and truck options to law enforcement and government agencies.”

“The standard Durango has several class-leading attributes, such as power, towing and a driving range of more than 550 miles, so it is a natural to become a great utility tool for law enforcement and general fleet customers,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Dodge Brand. “This Special Service version will no doubt be a major asset to any agency in need of a durable, yet comfortable, SUV.”

The Dodge Durango Special Service carries all of the SUV’s class-leading utility, such as available 7,400-pound towing capacity, more than 550-mile driving range with the Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine, and available 360 horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine. Available in rear- or all-wheel drive, the Dodge Durango Special Service model comes with the following additional components designed for the rigors of daily fleet use: A heavy-duty brake package, heavy-duty battery, larger-output 220-amp alternator and heavy-duty water pump and engine oil cooler.

A 5-year/100,000-mile fully transferrable powertrain warranty helps eliminate worry of any repair costs to the covered components.

Dodge Durango Special Service also has a customizable rear cargo area with under-floor storage compartments and additional storage in the side compartments. Further modifications include a special service interior dome lamp and headliner, spot lamp wiring prep and the deletion of the third row of seats for more cargo capacity. Even with the deletion of the third row, the second row still has separate air conditioning and heat controls.

These modifications make the already stout Durango more than capable of handling daily fleet use.

Dodge Durango is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) “Top Safety Pick,” and Special Service models offer customers the same 45 safety and security features, including standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation (ERM), Hill-start Assist and standard Trailer-sway Control (TSC) to enhance off-road and towing capabilities. Other standard safety and security features include seat-mounted and side-curtain air bags in the front row. The curtain air bag extends protection to second and third-row passengers (third-row seating deleted in Special Service models). Durango also includes standard front-row active head restraints.

The Dodge Durango Special Service will be built at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. It joins the Dodge Charger Pursuit sedan and Ram 1500 Special Service truck currently available to government fleet customers.

Dodge Durango: Best-in-class power, towing and driving range
With its four-wheel independent suspension, near 50:50 weight distribution and responsive steering and handling, Durango has driving dynamics unlike what you typically find in a sport-utility vehicle (SUV). No other SUV on the road compares with the all-new Dodge Durango’s distinctive bold Dodge design that craftily houses a flexible and premium interior, covered in soft-touch materials. Durango features more than 30 storage areas and a rear cargo area of nearly 85 cubic feet that fits a 10-foot ladder with the front passenger seat folded flat. The 2012 Dodge Durango is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick.

Durango also delivers the perfect blend of power and fuel efficiency. Its award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 290 horsepower along with a best-in-class driving range of more than 550 miles on one tank of fuel – that means Durango owners could drive all the way from San Diego to San Francisco or New York City to Boston and back again without needing to stop for fuel. The available HEMI® V-8 engine with Fuel Saver multi-displacement technology delivers a best-in-class 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines deliver best-in-class V-6 and V-8 towing with standard Trailer-sway Control on all models (V-8 – up to 7,400 lbs. and V-6 – 6,200 lbs.). Durango also features more than 45 safety and security features.

Dodge Brand Identity Returns in NASCAR with 2013 Dodge Charger

2013dodgechargerlvms

Fans asked for it. NASCAR agreed. SRT Motorsports and Dodge delivered. SRT Motorsports unveiled the 2013 Dodge Charger that will compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series next season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today in front of the people that asked for the change -- the fans. Just as they did with the Dodge Challenger when it was introduced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series two years ago, SRT Motorsports designers and engineers created a race car fans will have no problem identifying on the race track. The defining features of the street Charger have been expertly incorporated into the racing version.

“From the start, it’s been a collaborative effort with NASCAR,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports. “NASCAR provided the manufacturers with basic specifications, but offered encouragement to venture beyond the look of the current race car. Our design and engineering group, working with Penske Racing, seized the opportunity. We had a fantastic benchmark – the Dodge Challenger – introduced in 2009. This endeavor goes beyond the trend the Nationwide Series Challenger started with a Dodge Charger that amazingly embodies many of the design features of the street version into the race car. We’re extremely proud that the Dodge Charger street car is the only rear-wheel-drive model in Sprint Cup competition that is available with a V-8 engine.”

NASCAR eased rules on where manufacturers could put glass and solid body pieces. That freed designers and engineers to make the “greenhouse,” the area above the doors, hood and truck lid, more closely resemble production cars. Rules were also eased for the front and rear, and especially the sides, allowing the character lines that come directly from the street car.

"We know NASCAR fans are passionate about cars,” said NASCAR President Mike Helton. “We're excited about the results of the collective efforts of NASCAR, Dodge and the other manufacturers to create the 2013 Sprint Cup cars. The 2013 Dodge Charger race car design is a great example of what we look forward to seeing on the race track next season. We thank Dodge and all the manufacturers for their efforts, as we see the results here today with the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Dodge Charger."

The relationship between the Dodge Charger street car and the Dodge Charger race car is unmistakable.

“The race fans delivered a clear message,” said Gilles. “NASCAR listened. We went to work, following the guidelines established for all manufacturers by NASCAR. The Dodge Charger revealed today validates our resolve to deliver a product that will be easily identifiable on the track without compromise in the area of competition.”

  • America’s best value commercial full-size pickup now available in three cab styles
  • Great value includes no-charge RamBox and V-8 power
  • Price reduction on regular cab Tradesman makes it an even better value

The Ram Truck brand today announced that it would expand Ram 1500 Tradesman availability to include Crew Cab and Quad Cab® models, giving buyers an outstanding combination of value and performance across all Ram half-ton pickup configurations.

Asd

The Ram 1500 Tradesman previously was available in regular-cab models only.

“From the moment we launched the truck, the Ram 1500 Tradesman was a hit,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico – Chrysler Group LLC. “Our new four-door Ram Tradesman models offer the pickup segment’s best combination of room for six hard-working adults, V-8 capability and value.”

The Tradesman is a value-priced package designed to meet the hard-working needs of small businessmen, construction jobsites and commercial fleets at an affordable price

“When we added Crew and Quad Cab availability to the sporty Ram 1500 Express, we were able to gain share in the segment by offering buyers the absolute best four-door truck value in the market,” added Diaz. “Ram Tradesman offers fullsize work truck capability at a great price. Our 4.7-liter V-8 delivers 20 mpg, comes with a standard tow package and all the guts you need to get the job done.”

Ram’s 4.7-liter V-8 FFV engine is rated at 310 horsepower, 330 lb.-ft. of torque and 20 mpg EPA highway. The 4.7-liter V-8 delivers more power and more trailer-towing capability (7,700 lbs.) than competing base engines. For even more power, the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 with 390 hp / 407 lb.-ft. of torque is an available Tradesman option.

Tradesman models also get styled, full-face steel wheels, a fully warrantied factory-equipped spray-in bedliner and a 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition, Ram Tradesman 4.7-liter models now come with a no-cost RamBox cargo management system that includes lighted, lockable storage for tools and adjustable tie-downs – a $1,295 value.

Ram Tradesman has better performance, greater capability and more standard features than the competitions’ work trucks. Features include link-coil rear suspension for best-in-class ride and handling, heavy-duty cooling for long life and reliability, Class IV receiver hitch, 4 and 7-pin trailer connectors, in-floor storage on crew cab models, forward-opening doors on Quad Cab, power windows and a six-speaker stereo with CD player and audio input jack.

“Durability, reliability and value for the money are the top three considerations for our customers. Their truck is the most important tool they own and one they’ll use every day. The Ram Tradesman is a truck they can depend on.”

All Ram Truck engines, transmissions and axles are covered by a segment-leading five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Prices for the Ram Tradesman Quad Cab start at $27,330, including $995 destination charge. The Ram Tradesman Crew Cab starts at $29,810. Ram 1500 Tradesman regular cab prices have been lowered for 2012 to $22,370 (when equipped with 4.7-liter engine).

The Ram 1500 Tradesman HD remains the ultimate in capability, with the heaviest towing (11,500 lbs.) and payload (3,125 lbs.) of any light-duty truck. Available exclusively in long-bed, regular cab 4x2 configuration, Ram 1500 Tradesman HD is offered at a base MSRP of $29,600, including destination.

Tradesman Quad and Crew models are currently shipping to Ram Truck dealers.

Just days after earning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) highest 5-star safety rating, the new 2012 Chrysler 300 flagship sedan is chalking up another accolade, Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com “10 Best Family Cars of 2012” award. For the last five years, the expert editors at kbb.com have awarded the 10 Best Family Cars that cater to unique family specifications and situations.

“Well-equipped at its starting price under $30,000, the Chrysler 300 qualifies as a screaming deal for those who favor a full-size sedan with outstanding comfort, loads of premium standard features and a distinctive sense of style,” said Jack R. Nerad, Executive Editorial Director and Executive Market Analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. “Redesigned for 2011, the Chrysler 300 gets even better for 2012 thanks to a new economy-enhancing V-6 engine and segment-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission.”

The 10 Best Family Cars of 2012 list consists of new vehicles that are family-approved in a big way, offering safety, comfort, child-friendliness, strong consumer ratings and impressive Kelley Blue Book Total Cost of Ownership statistics.

Transportation costs during the ownership period are important for families trying to get by on tight budgets. A vital part of kbb.com’s selection process was identifying new vehicles that have low cost of ownership in the initial five-year ownership period. Available on kbb.com, Total Cost of Ownership information examines depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state fees for new models.

“At a time when the nation is regaining confidence and that fighting American ‘can-do’ spirit, the new Chrysler 300 series sedans reward these hard working folks with the world-class engineering, craftsmanship, safety and technology features that were once only found on high end sedans costing two or even three times the price,” said Saad Chehab, President and CEO – Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “We’re honored that Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com editors scrutinized our Chrysler 300 flagship sedan and recognized it for its quality and precision engineering that were once limited to the privileged few. This recognition goes to further demonstrate that Chrysler brand is now a top choice for the most demanding consumers.”
